FLOATING MECHANISM (nightshade)
Claudia Fitch
01 February – 23 April 2010

Floating Mechanism (nightshade) is a landscape tableau that hovers just above the gallery floor, richly patterned and dramatically punctuated by the cantilevered armature floating down from the adjacent wall. Scaled and placed to hold a dynamic relationship to the Space, the tableau considers and playfully re-invents the industrial, mechanical world of the gallery’s original use.

Floating Mechanism (nightshade) is made possible through funding from 4Culture/King County Lodging Tax Fund, National Endowment of the Arts’ Recovery Act stimulus funds through 4Culture’s Recovery Act sub-granting program, the Suyama Space Friends, and was curated by Beth Sellars in partnership with Space.City. Artist support is provided by a special project grant from Seattle Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs. Pottery Northwest provided in-kind services for installation fabrication.
